Our congregation
Was founded in Puerto Plata city at the beginning of 1924.
Duncan McCunn Reid, Born in Motherwell, Scotland, on may 6th, 1897 and his wife Mary Campbell, came in the fall of 1921 to the Dominican Republic, were its founders.
During the first year, three people were converted. These were: Marina González Colson, here mother Mrs. María (Maraya) Colson (who was the progenitor of the eminent dominican paintor Jaime Colson) and her nephew Antonio Miranda. Over a period of about five years there was an apparent stagnation. The oposition of the catholic church was tenacius.
In 1938, Ian M. Rathie, with Duncan Reid, began making evangelical radio programs transmitions, thus becoming pioneers, not only in our country, throughout Latin America.
In 1947, James Cochrane arrived with his wife Grace. Who developed a teaching work preciosness on the north coast and Santo Domingo city. With the brothers Donald McIntosh and Ian Rathie, on september 1951, began in the community of Joba Arriba, Moca, the called Bible Courses, with the aim of training in the Word of God to the pastors and leaders of the different local churches. Those Bible Courses still remain until today.
Also colaborated with the Reid, the following sisters: miss Marian Iverson, miss Marjorie Bolton and miss Emma Scheidt.
As time passed, many were reached by the powerful force of the gospel. Mr. Reid with a formidable team of collaborators, as well as national bethren were added every day, worked throughout the city and its surroundings and on horseback, combed almost the entire north coast. It can be said that from Sánchez to Puerto Plata was not a corner where the Gospel of the grace was not announced.
The Lord has saved His work, and His mercy has sustained us all these years. The work begun by these beloved bretrens, even today still stands, still alive.
God´s Word is announced, the church of Christ continues growing and the testimony remains saved, shining like a light in the darkness, with the light of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
¡So far God has helped us!
¡To God be the glory!
